Job Description
Primary Function of Position
The individual in this role will manage Intuitive’s corporate development efforts for its da Vinci and Ion business units, including sourcing, investigating and negotiating a variety of transactions for the company. Deal types will include strategic equity investments, strategic partnerships, co-marketing and co-development agreements, both in- and out-licensing, and M&A.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Support corporate development activities for Intuitive's da Vinci and Ion business units, including the identification, evaluation, and execution of strategic partnerships, investments, licensing transactions, and M&A opportunities.
- Identify and assess external technologies, companies, and market opportunities aligned with Intuitive's strategic priorities and technology roadmap.
- Lead or support all phases of transactions, including sourcing, relationship development, business case creation, valuation, due diligence, structuring, negotiation, contracting, integration planning, and closing.
- Manage transaction workstreams and coordinate cross-functional teams to evaluate strategic, technical, commercial, financial, legal, and regulatory considerations.
- Develop strategic assessments, financial analyses, valuation models, and recommendations to support decision-making.
- Partner with business and technology leaders to understand priorities, capability gaps, and opportunities for external innovation.
- Collaborate with Corporate Development, Strategy, Finance, Legal, and Business Unit leaders to advance opportunities aligned with corporate objectives.
- Build and maintain relationships with external companies, investors, advisors, entrepreneurs, and strategic partners.
- Prepare transaction materials and recommendations for senior leadership and executive review.
- Support and, where appropriate, lead negotiations and transaction execution activities.
- Maintain ongoing partner relationships and support post-transaction governance and integration efforts.
- Provide regular updates on active opportunities, transactions, and external relationships to Corporate Development leadership and key stakeholders.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Core Competencies, Skills and Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 8 or more years of professional experience, with 5 or more years of experience within the medical device, life sciences, technology, finance, investing, or related industries.
- Prior work experience in corporate development, business development, finance, investing, strategy, or another relevant discipline.
- Prior experience supporting and/or executing strategic transactions, including M&A, strategic investments, licensing, partnerships, or other business development transactions. Prior experience in corporate business development is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate new technologies, companies, markets, and strategic opportunities and assess their potential fit with broader business and technology strategies.
- Strong business judgment, analytical capabilities, results orientation, and demonstrated interest in advancing a company's strategic position through business development activities.
- Strong financial and analytical skills, including the ability to develop business cases, financial models, valuation analyses, and market assessments.
- Ability to manage key aspects of transaction execution, including opportunity assessment, business case development, due diligence, transaction structuring, negotiations, and coordination of definitive agreements.
- Ability to coordinate cross-functional teams and work effectively with stakeholders across Strategy, Finance, Legal, R&D, Marketing, Clinical, Regulatory, and other functions as appropriate.
- Strong interpersonal and influence-management skills, with the ability to build relationships, develop alignment, and move projects forward across multiple functions and levels of the organization.
- Ability to manage significant projects and workstreams with a high degree of independence while seeking guidance and alignment on key strategic and transaction decisions.
- Strong business maturity and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with senior internal stakeholders and external executives, investors, entrepreneurs, and business partners.
- Analytical thinker who can synthesize complex information, identify the most important issues, and develop clear recommendations without becoming overly focused on unnecessary detail.
- Results-oriented, with the ability to take projects from initial evaluation through diligence, negotiation, and execution in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and manage changing priorities while maintaining focus on key objectives.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to tailor communications to different audiences.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and transactions simultaneously.
- Self-motivated and proactive, with a desire to contribute to the long-term strategic success of the business.
- Ability to travel, averaging 10–20% overall. Monthly travel may range from 0% to 50%.
Education and Training Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required, preferably with relevant experience in healthcare, medical devices, life sciences, technology, finance, or a related field.
- MBA, advanced degree, or equivalent relevant professional experience preferred.

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications. The target base compensation ranges are listed.
Base Compensation Range Region 1: $150,100 USD - $215,900 USD
Base Compensation Range Region 2: $127,600 USD - $183,500 USD
