Senior Technical Business Systems Analyst – Legal Systems

IT And Systems

Company Description

It started with a simple idea: what if surgery could be less invasive and recovery less painful? Nearly 30 years later, that question still fuels everything we do at Intuitive. As a global leader in robotic-assisted surgery and minimally invasive care, our technologies—like the da Vinci surgical system and Ion—have transformed how care is delivered for millions of patients worldwide.

We’re a team of engineers, clinicians, and innovators united by one purpose: to make surgery smarter, safer, and more human. Every day, our work helps care teams perform with greater precision and patients recover faster, improving outcomes around the world.

The problems we solve demand creativity, rigor, and collaboration. The work is challenging, but deeply meaningful—because every improvement we make has the potential to change a life.

If you’re ready to contribute to something bigger than yourself and help transform the future of healthcare, you’ll find your purpose here.

Job Description

Primary Function of Position:

The Senior Technical Business Systems Analyst – Legal Systems is a strategic partner to Legal Leadership and Legal Operations, accountable for the end-to-end ownership, optimization, and roadmap execution of enterprise legal technology platforms.

This is not a transactional delivery role. The Senior BSA operates with significant autonomy and decision-making authority, translating Legal’s strategic priorities into scalable system capabilities that improve operational efficiency, strengthen compliance posture, and mitigate enterprise risk.

This role blends deep legal domain understanding with strong technical acumen. The Senior BSA owns solution design, configuration, integrations, data architecture decisions (within IT standards), vendor management, and measurable business outcomes across legal systems.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Strategic Partnership & Business Impact

  • Serve as a senior advisor to Legal Leadership and Legal Operations on technology strategy, systems roadmap, and process transformation.

  • Co-own Legal Systems roadmap aligned to Legal Ops priorities and enterprise IT strategy.

  • Drive measurable outcomes such as:

    • Reduced contract cycle time

    • Improved outside counsel spend visibility and budget adherence

    • Enhanced audit readiness and compliance reporting

    • Reduced operational and regulatory risk

  • Conduct current-state and future-state analysis across core legal workflows, including:

    • Contract lifecycle management (intake, authoring, negotiation, approval, signature, repository)

    • Outside counsel and matter management

    • Legal spend and accrual tracking

    • Compliance and policy management

    • Privacy operations (DSAR workflows, data processing records)

    • Intellectual property tracking

    • Litigation support and document management

Legal Systems Ownership & Roadmap Accountability

  • Act as the designated system owner for assigned legal applications (e.g., CLM, eBilling/matter management, DMS, eSignature, compliance tools).

  • Own backlog prioritization in partnership with Legal Ops.

  • Define release strategy and manage enhancements lifecycle.

  • Lead vendor evaluation, selection, and performance management.

  • Ensure systems support legal-specific constraints, including:

    • Attorney-client privilege

    • Confidentiality requirements

    • Ethical walls

    • Data retention and legal hold obligations

    • Regulatory requirements (SOX, GDPR, HIPAA, etc.)

Technical Design, Configuration & Integration

  • Translate complex legal requirements into scalable system configurations and workflows.

  • Perform hands-on configuration of supported platforms (fields, workflows, templates, permissions, automation rules).

  • Define and document functional and technical specifications.

  • Design and oversee integrations between legal systems and enterprise platforms (ERP, HRIS, CRM, collaboration tools).

  • Partner with architects and developers to design APIs, data models, and automation patterns.

  • Own system data integrity, governance alignment, and role-based security models.

  • Evaluate downstream enterprise impact of system changes.

This role maintains strong technical accountability without serving as a software engineer.

Project Leadership & Change Enablement

  • Lead end-to-end implementations from discovery through go-live and stabilization.

  • Facilitate executive-level workshops and decision-making forums.

  • Drive UAT strategy, test case design, and acceptance criteria validation.

  • Develop adoption strategies, training plans, and documentation.

  • Ensure alignment with enterprise IT governance and change control processes.

Reporting, Analytics & Risk Management

  • Define and deliver reporting solutions supporting Legal KPIs and executive dashboards.

  • Improve transparency into:

    • Contract velocity and bottlenecks

    • Legal spend trends

    • Matter volume and risk exposure

  • Ensure data supports audit defensibility and regulatory inquiries.

  • Partner with Compliance and Risk teams to ensure systems reinforce internal controls.

  • 7+ years of Business Systems Analyst or Technical BSA experience with increasing ownership.

  • Demonstrated experience supporting Legal, Compliance, Risk, or regulated business functions.

  • Hands-on configuration experience within enterprise SaaS platforms.

  • Experience leading complex system implementations and integrations.

  • Strong understanding of:

    • Data governance and retention policies

    • Role-based access and segregation of duties

    • Confidential data handling frameworks

  • Ability to translate nuanced legal processes into systemized workflows.

  • Strong executive communication skills and ability to influence senior stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience implementing or optimizing a Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) platform.

  • Experience with eBilling or matter management platforms.

  • Familiarity with ServiceNow, Salesforce, ERP systems, and middleware/integration platforms.

  • Experience working in a regulated public company environment.
