Local events inspire the next generation: employees’ kids!

At Intuitive, we have a lot of pride in our mission and work. Naturally, we like the opportunity to share our experiences with others, including our children—the next generation of innovators.

Teams in Tel Aviv, Israel, and Orange, Connecticut, recently held volunteer-driven, on-site events to spark kids’ curiosity about medicine and technology, introduce them to their parents’ workplace, and boost employee pride.

“Days like these remind us why we are here and why we do what we do,” said Ira Iozsef, HR partner in Israel.

Thirty-eight children ages 6 to 16 participated in this first-ever event in Tel Aviv. The kids got a glimpse into the world of robotic surgery: they worked with the da Vinci system, conducted a pretend colonoscopy with a real endoscope, and solved challenging puzzles. They also learned about software development and packed bags with school supplies to donate to families in need.

“The most exciting moment was to see the connections that are forged between the children and the light in their proud parents’ eyes,” Ira said.

Omri Hazan, digital sales and technical support manager, was one of the employees who volunteered at the event.

“As a father of three young kids, I often find myself trying to explain to them what I do for work,” he said. “This was the first time in my professional career that they got a glimpse of what their father does every day. They were thrilled when they had the opportunity to interact with the robot they hear so much about at home.”

Omri thinks of Intuitive Israel as one big family, where everyone shares the same difficulties, challenges, and successes.

“Bringing your own family into your work family is a feeling that words can hardly capture,” he said.

Over in Orange, Connecticut, 19 kids ranging in age from 3 to 22 participated in another volunteer-driven event.

These children and young adults got to sit at a da Vinci 5 system and see a wire machine, CNC (computer numerical control) machine, and molding machine in action.

Held for the second time, the event was led by Supplier Engineering Manager Rachel Decio, Site Project Manager Gina Weaver, Project Manager Cookie Henn, and members of the Orange Event Planning Committee.

“In Orange, we are a small office, but we have such pride in what we do and the people we work with, and we wanted to share some of that with our families,” Rachel said. “Everyone took time out of their busy schedules to make sure these kids could have the best experience.”
