As Intuitive continues to grow in India, we’re hiring for Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance (RAQA) roles in Bengaluru. Our global RAQA team plays a critical part in ensuring compliance and quality in every aspect of Intuitive’s life-changing products—from software development to hardware engineering to post-market surveillance.
We spoke with Meher Muttanapalli (senior manager, RAQA) and Patrick Caines (senior director, Global Post-Market Surveillance) about what they are looking for in candidates, the kinds of challenges they’ll be expected to solve, and the value of having a direct impact on doctors changing patients’ lives.
Why is now an exciting time to join Intuitive in India?
Patrick: At Intuitive, people can grow their careers, grow their skills, and participate in a fast, challenging, and complex life sciences environment. It’s not a place for the timid. It’s a place for those who really like to be challenged and want to make an impact.

Meher: When people get hired at bigger companies, they sometimes enter rigid corporate cultures that don’t allow employees to have a meaningful impact on their processes. However, at Intuitive, not only is our technology innovative, but our values are forward-thinking as well. There’s a lot of opportunity for anyone to help the company grow while developing themselves, too.
Patrick: Every day I’m humbled by how much I don’t know, since I work with people from so many different backgrounds and different perspectives. I’m always open to being challenged by my staff members at any level—you never know where the next good idea will come from.
I’ve worked at a lot of places, and the one thing I find here at Intuitive is I have never had someone tell me, “I’m not going to help you.” It’s a very supportive environment. If you want to grow and really succeed in your career, I can’t think of a better place to be than Intuitive.
What are you looking for in RAQA candidates?
Meher: Because we’re growing so fast with such leading-edge technology, one of the most valuable assets a candidate can bring to Intuitive is the ability to look at things from a different perspective. When we hire people who have skill sets and experiences from various industries, they can offer a new way of thinking and come up with innovations we haven’t thought of before. There could be areas where we might be ignorant or might not be challenging ourselves, so we want candidates who can approach our processes with a new set of eyes and help our teams improve what we’re doing.

Patrick: There’s a complexity across our quality processes that we’re looking to simplify—anyone joining now will play a big role in shaping RAQA at Intuitive. We recently launched a big quality system improvement initiative, which really opened our eyes to ways we can simplify and introduce new technologies such as A.I. and machine learning to reduce complexity and streamline operations. The candidates who have the sort of vision where they are willing to not accept the status quo and can identify and execute on areas to improve will be very successful here.
RAQA employees will be part of a global organization. Why is this important? What does it mean for individual and company growth?
Meher: When we are hiring roles out of Bangalore, one thing that I tell candidates is that this is not a contracting or consulting position. This is full time. You’re as good as any other person on the team, and whether you’re from Bangalore, Mexicali, or the U.S., we want to do some great work that could make an impact globally. There is a big opportunity for you if you want to grab it.
Patrick: We deal with global regulators, customers, environments, so it makes sense for us to really look at expanding on global workforce as well. For example, the new Post-Market Surveillance team we have in Mexicali has brought in a lot of unique perspectives from new hires who have worked in aerospace and other medical industries. It’s very interesting to take their input and bring it into our decision making on how we improve our processes and systems. And we’re looking to do the same thing with the new team in Bangalore.
How do RAQA employees feel connected to Intuitive’s mission?
Meher: Even though the quality control team is far from the operating room, we know our work has a meaningful outcome for the patient. Our software is deeply integrated with the medical device, so we feel close to the product. Making sure that it performs properly connects us to the patient because we know how much impact the product will have on them.
Patrick: There’s a strong connection between what we do and the patient. We see what happens when some combination of the user experience and the product performance leads to an adverse outcome to the patient. Our job is then to work collaboratively to figure out what happened and how we can learn and improve. Intuitive products apply minimally invasive technology that ultimately reduce trauma to patients when they need surgery, so they can recover more quickly. The value proposition of the technology we use not only improves the lives of individual patients but also the medical profession. That’s meaningful for me—and why Intuitive is a such a special place.
