Job Description

Primary Function of Position:

The Sr. Director, Europe Finance and Sales Operations (FSO) leads the Europe Finance and Sales Operations Organization. This leader is the advisor and business partner for the Commercial President and SVP of Europe. Responsible for all FP&A and Sales Operations-related matters in the region, including partnering with the Europe leadership team to deliver outstanding financial performance, budgeting, forecasting, closing activities, analytics, quotas, reporting, customer targeting and commercial insights. Will be tasked with analyzing complex business problems and providing strategic, data-driven recommendations that support planning, commercial strategy, short and long-range financial models, and accelerated da Vinci adoption in the region.

This is a highly analytical role requiring a keen understanding of commercial finance and sales operations, analytic processes, the ability to lead and motivate multiple teams, and the ability to communicate and develop meaningful work relationships with multiple executive business partners.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lead development, execution and measurement of Europe FP&A and Sales Operations functions, tools, and teams (including sales operations processes, commercial analytics/reporting, sales compensation and quotas, budgeting, forecasting, customer targeting / segmentation, commercial strategy, financial governance).
  • Partner with SVP/GM of Europe, Regional GMs / Marketing leaders, internal finance leaders, Directors/VPs, to ensure budgets, quotas, strategy, delivers on short/long-term financial plans.
  • Ability to teach and do: Proactively analyze complex business problems and issues using data from internal and external sources. Provide strategic, data-driven recommendations that support planning, commercial strategy, short and long-range financial models, and accelerated da Vinci adoption in the region.
  • Development of commercial reporting / cockpits that align to Intuitive’s commercial fundamental building blocks (adherence to the training pathways, incremental sustainable surgeons, high quality 90 and 180-day training productivity, increased sales contribution, clinical and capital selling milestones).
  • Ensure budgeting, resource allocation, tradeoffs are accounted through lens of commercial fundamental building blocks (shown above).
  • Development of regional goals and reporting on progress towards goals that are aligned with commercial fundamental building blocks. Ensure discipline to addressing areas of low performance / concern.
  • Development of quota models and commercial incentive plans that align with sales comp principles around pay for performance and quality sales fundamentals.
  • Develop and execute processes that facilitate tradeoff discussions / matrix budgeting among multiple ecosystem departments (Procedure Readiness Matrix).
  • Establish, foster and appropriately leverage relationships with internal customers, business partners, VP-level leadership across multiple departments/organizations.
  • Partner with Executive commercial leadership to develop board-level and customer-facing presentation materials.
  • Be an inspirational leader, coach, and manager to the Europe FSO organization.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Masters degree preferred).
  • Demonstrated successful management and development of large, multi-tiered teams that demonstrate high execution and high employee engagement.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop managers to point of independence that enabled an organization to scale.
  • Demonstrated selfless leadership and ability to positively engage management on projects that spanned multiple departments (Matrix organization).
  • Strong financial and problem-solving skills and ability to think critically through complexity.
  • High curiosity and aptitude for understanding trends, outliers, and causal relationships.
  • Ability to objectively evaluate business and engage in discussions without defensive posture.
  • Highly organized with an ability to support and prioritize multiple projects concurrently.
  • Excellent written and oral communication with a dedicated customer orientation.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP and relevant controllership experience (including statutory accounting, Credit & Collections, Accounts Payable, intercompany, VAT, and local tax and customs requirements and audits).
  • Proficiency with dashboard/report creation and data visualization tools (Tableau preferred).
  • Advanced Excel skills (SQL or other database preferred).
  • Availability for travel international as requested.
  • Minimum 15 years experience of well-rounded finance / sales operations management experiences in positions of increasing responsibility.
  • Experience leading both Finance and Sales Operations functions within a global organization.
  • Experience supporting large-scale commercial organizations within healthcare, medical technology, or related industries.
  • Experience developing board-level financial and strategic presentations.
  • Proven success implementing commercial analytics, reporting, customer segmentation, and sales incentive programs.
