Clinical Development Engineering Careers
At the crossroads of engineering and patient care, our Clinical Development Engineers translate what surgeons need into the technology that delivers it.

How a surgeon's instincts become an engineer's blueprint
Clinical Development Engineers are the bridge between the operating room and the design lab. Hands-on and deeply curious, they work alongside surgeons and clinical teams to understand what's truly needed, then translate those insights into data-driven requirements that shape our next generation of systems.

Influence product design
As Clinical Development Engineers (CDEs) we define, develop, and validate the clinical function of new products for our da Vinci Multi-port, Single-port, and Ion product lines. We’re involved in all phases of product development, from early assessment of clinical value and feasibility, definition of critical product requirements, iterative evaluation of products through design validation, and support of first patient cases. When a product enables surgeons to help patients around the world, we know that our passionate, hands-on work has played a part.

Develop clinical expertise
After an immersive clinical training period, clinical development engineers (CDEs) apply their knowledge of robotic procedures and techniques across multiple specialties to hands-on product evaluations in in-vivo, ex-vivo, and cadaveric models. We collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to represent and champion a broad spectrum of clinical perspectives throughout the product development process.

Make your mark
We’re looking for passionate individuals to join our diverse team. You’ll have the opportunity to develop and shape future innovations that will support our company’s mission to advance minimally invasive care and expand the potential of physicians to heal without constraints. Apply today for one of our open clinical development jobs.
“As a CDE, I get to be a part of the end-to-end product development cycle. One day you will find me in the lab doing a prototype evaluation and the next day talking to surgeons about their unmet needs. I love the versatility that the CDE role gives me.”
Manager, Clinical Development Engineering
“Being a CDE allows you to be the internal voice of customer, understand the clinical needs and applications for our products, and to really influence the designs to make them safe and effective. I really enjoy the hands-on aspect of the job, as you get to use our products as our users would.”
