Job Description
Primary Function of Position The Environmental technician is responsible for ensuring the correct storage and handling of chemicals as well as waste, whether it is special handling waste, universal waste or hazardous waste. It works closely with production areas to ensure the correct disposal of waste as well as the handling of chemicals. All efforts are directed to ensure legal compliance with the applicable regulation and with ISO14001 Standard.
Essential Job Duties
- Use Personal Protection Equipment
- Communicate unsafe acts or conditions to supervisor
- When required, participate in emergency, Chemical spill
- Management of waste shipping (cardboard, plastic, universal waste)
- Manage cardboard and universal waste collection in time to avoid accumulation
- Participate in the management of environmental campaigns
- Cleaning and management of the hazardous waste warehouses
- Make waste records reporting weight using the scale
- Manage calibration of measurement equipment
- Contribute to the correct segregation of waste by reporting non-compliance conditions
- Take care that the tools or equipment are not damaged by negligence or improper use
- Use of pallet jack and Forklift for material handling
- Use Devices, accessories, tools and equipment according to the process; verifying that they are in good conditions of use, and reporting those that are in poor conditions for their repair
- Comply with the Policies, Regulations and Code of Conduct of the Organization
- Rotation between buildings
- Wear Environmental technician uniform
- Provide an Environmental induction course for new employees
- Ability to rotate between Nelson and Carranza sites
- Control and safeguarding of special handling waste, universal waste or hazardous waste manifests
- Record weights of waste generated to prepare environmental reports
- Monthly reviews and preparation of logs of chemical cabinets, eyewash, spill kits, etc.
- Ensure the correct handling and control of the Safety Data Sheets of chemicals used in the facilities
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience
- Organization skills
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and to prioritize and schedule work to meet business needs
- Good interpersonal skills, ability to work with others in team Environment;
- Support other work stations to avoid the accumulation of hazardous waste
- Detail orientated, with emphasis on accuracy and completeness
- Follow-up instructions
- Ability to follow the indications of a management system
- Public Speaking Skills (Environmental Induction Course)
- Ability to operate forklift and pallet jack
- 1 year of experience in environmental department or similar role
Required Education and Training (
- High School / Technical Career
- Forklift training or certification
Working Conditions
- The activities of the environmental technician are performed inside and outside the building
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Microsoft Office, Computer skills basic level
- Having worked in the Manufacturing industry
- Knowledge of ISO 14001:2015 basic level
- Knowledge in local, state level, laws and regulations related to waste management
- English – Basic Level
