Industrial Engineer

Job Description

Joining Intuitive Surgical means joining a team dedicated to using technology to benefit patients by improving surgical efficacy and decreasing surgical invasiveness, with patient safety as our highest priority.


Primary function of the position:


Factory planning and layout development of production lines and updating of building plans


Roles and Responsibilities:


  • Technological planning of production and manufacturing facilities
  • Technical-technological analysis & evaluation of products and production programs to be planned as a basis for estimating capacities
  • Design workstations in consideration of ergonomic aspects and defined standards
  • Coordinate approved production concepts and implement them together with the project participants
  • Process optimization
  • Preparation and review of process documents or specifications and requirement specifications
  • Participation in the award of technical projects (e.g. comparing offers and conducting negotiations)
  • Identification and analysis of possible weak points and further development of our manufacturing concepts in line with regulatory and official requirements
  • Contact person for technical questions in the areas of Production, Engineering and Quality


  • BE/BS required, ME/MS preferred; Mechanical Engineering, Microsystems Engineering or equivalent
    • or a Recognised technical training occupation under the Vocational Training Act (BBiG) with 5+ professional work experience as Engineer, Experience in medical device development and manufacturing environment preferred
    • or Bachelor's degree or higher in one of the following or comparable fields

-          Production-Engineering

  • Preferably 3 years of relevant work experience in the field of work preparation, industrial engineering or technical project management in a manufacturing company

  • Ideally, several years of professional experience in medical technology or from the regulated environment with

  • Experience and comprehensive know-how in the production environment desirable

  • Very good knowledge and experience in handling an ERP system

  • Experience in handling a modern, KPI-based production system, Kaizen philosophies

  • Independent, structured, careful and solution-oriented working methods and quality awareness

  • Analytical and conceptual thinking

  • Good commercial understanding, enjoyment of dialogue with customers and internal coordination with upstream and downstream work areas

  • Must be computer literate with experience using; Windows, Excel, Word, PowerPoint

  • Intercultural skills
  • Very good written and verbal communication skills in German and English
  • Factory planning experience available
  • Create and deliver presentations to a technical audience
  • Willingness to travel for several days within Germany, Europe and USA is assumed.
