Description

Function:

The Strategic Sourcing Manager (Asia / Low Cost Region) is responsible for developing and executing Commodity Sourcing Strategies, for the Endoluminal Business Unit, ensuring that immediate, near, and longer-term technology, and manufacturing process sourcing needs are created and implemented ; to drive and innovative our world class Supply Chain.


The role significantly involves cross functional collaboration, partnership and buy-in, from both US and China based organizations (Intuitive Surgical Joint Venture Operations)


Execute procurement related operations specific to numerous, varying commodities, specifically related to driving an Asia / low cost region supply chain.  Ensure adherence to pre-established procurement policies and processes, sourcing, cost performance monitoring and management, plus supply chain risk identification and mitigation. Work closely with the Procurement and Supplier Engineering teams to ensure cost targets are met, goals are achieved, and align on strategies and implantation & execution plans and methods.

 

Develops and executes an “in region” Sourcing Strategy for assigned Commodities, for the associated Supply Chain program (Endoluminal Product Line) through leverage of innovative Sourcing Methodologies & Strategies, developing and fostering Strong Relationships with Suppliers, collaboration with internal stakeholders, and adherence to Quality Control standards while managing, near and long-term Cost Performance Goals, and Initiatives.

 
Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Lead development of Asia / low Cost Region Supplier Sourcing Strategies, and Supplier Selection, in collaboration with involved Functional Involved Groups, intra and xtra company, to meet overall performance needs, and forward-looking growth plans
    • Identify, assess, develop, and ensure suppliers, current and new, meet key cost, performance and quality objectives
    • Drive collaborative, cross-organization consensus on new supplier selection recommendations
  • Collaborate with Supplier Engineering on “should cost” pricing models, to drive effective negotiations
  • Drive installation of business interruption plans with suppliers – Proactive Supply Risk Assessment, and Mitigation)
  • Serve as project manager for key Supplier Initiatives, within assigned Sourcing Region(s)
  • Commodity Strategy
    • Drive development of Asia / low cost region commodity strategy for assigned commodities, in support of the Endoluminal Business Unit
      • Commodities include, but are not limited to ;
        • Plastic / Silicone Injection Molding
        • Machining; Swiss Screw, 5 Axis etc.
        • Sheet Metal
        • Castings / weldments / Extrusions
        • ODM (Original Design Manufacture – Medical Device, Capital Equipment
        • PCA /PCB
        • Contract Manufacturing (Mechanical and Electrical)
        • Disposables (Single Use or Multi Use)
        • Others as needed
  • Preparation of comprehensive RFI, RFP and RFQ packages
    • Multiple bid analysis
    • Return on Investment analysis
  • Collaborate with other impacted / influencing functional groups, to drive new supplier onboarding process
  • Creates and maintains “in region” market intelligence data to anticipate changes in business positioning to thus safeguard supply continuity, and optimize Supply Chain performance
  • Support Inventory Excess and Obsolescence review process and upfront planning, particularly in the case of Resourcing Strategies – phase in / phase out
Qualifications

  • Proven track record of Asia / low cost region sourcing, specifically as related to Medical Device related component suppliers, and / or other highly regulated industry(s)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Can present verbally, articulately, clearly and concisely, to colleagues at all levels
  • 10+ years of direct materials supply chain management experience
    • ISO13485, 9001, GMP, GDP and GAAP experience
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience with proven track record of year-over year, cost reduction
  • Detailed working knowledge of Sourcing Strategies
  • Make vs. Buy and Total Cost of Ownership, analysis capability
  • Capability to develop and communicate commodity specific strategies that support business needs over a time horizon of 1-3 years.
  • Demonstrates concern for precision and thoroughness
  • Bachelor’s degree in business and engineering, or equivalent. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Certifications: CPSM, CPIM, and/or PMP preferred.
  • Significant computer experience including MS Office products and ERP systems, preferably SAP and Agile. Strong Excel and Power Point skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects successful
  • Ability to balance and perform successfully within a Corporate business structure that defines policies and process, that are then executed across varying geographies
  • ~30-50% travel to, and within Asia / other low-cost regions (role is US, Sunnyvale Based)
