Joining Intuitive Surgical means joining a team dedicated to using technology to benefit patients by improving surgical efficacy and
decreasing surgical invasiveness, with patient safety as our highest priority.

Primary Function of Position:

As an Intellectual Property (IP) Paralegal, you will support the Legal Department primarily in intellectual property matters, including in managing and growing Intuitive Surgical’s invention disclosure, patent, and trademark portfolios, and in supporting the company’s IP licensing, litigation, and transactional activities.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Perform hands-on docketing, filing, and reporting for invention disclosures, patents, and other forms of intellectual property.
• Provide preparation and prosecution, and registration and renewal support for patents and other forms of intellectual property. Help manage patent award program.
• Help define processes and workflows, manage outside counsel administration and oversee outside counsel work, and handle outside counsel inquiries and invoices.
• Provide IP licensing, transactional, and litigation support as requested.
• Help mentor less experienced members of the team on intellectual property practices.
• Provide backup support for other members of the Legal Support Staff.
• Lead or support special projects as appropriate.


Skills, Experience, Education, & Training:

• 5+ years’ relevant experience.
• Comprehensive knowledge of patent preparation and prosecution in the U.S. and in the WIPO. Substantial understanding of practices outside of the U.S. preferred.
• Self-starter with excellent interpersonal skills; helps to foster a collaborative culture and thrives in a team environment.
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Excellent organizational skills, time-management ability, attention to detail, and a drive to improve processes and tools.
• Able to accurately prioritize and multi-task to complete projects smoothly and on-time.
• Paralegal certificate and/or bachelor’s degree preferred.
