Primary Function of Position:
As the Senior Manager of Advanced Design, you will identify scope and lead multiple strategic projects that bring a human centered process and vision to early stage technology innovation.
You will lead multi-disciplinary design teams and collaborate with Human Factors Researchers, advanced technical development teams and Product Marketing Managers to develop deep empathy for our users and generate desirable user experiences. You will lead the process to develop tangible embodiments that communicate the strategic vision and user value in the form of physical and/or digital prototypes. You must be able to lead multi-disciplinary design teams to iterate quickly to develop future concepts. You have strong story telling abilities that blend user value, design opportunity and potential for business growth.
You will be involved in the early strategic stage of the product development process across both digital and physical products. You will be collaborating with design leads and cross-functional technical partners to help shape the vision and strategies behind some of the most significant initiatives in the company. You should feel comfortable changing elevations quickly, from high-level strategic thinking to in the weeds execution. What You’ll Do
• Build and lead the advanced design team for Intuitive to help define future and new product visions. You are future thinking, and you are not afraid to take risks.• Identify, scope (define activities, timeline, team and deliverables) and lead strategic design projects and collaborate with internal stakeholders.• Lead the team by showing great examples of design practices and help solve complex interaction problems.• Present compelling user centered visions to senior leadership to influence project directions and strategic decisions.• This role/team will focus exclusively on front-end innovation work. Projects may not end up transitioning into commercialization.
• Minimum 8+ years in a user centered design field with outstanding proven design leadership skills and visionary mindset.• Demonstrated experience managing design teams in the conceptualization of hardware and software and the ability to build, mentor and motivate teams.• Expertise and passion in the user centered design process and ability to evangelize the power of Design within the organization to senior leadership.• Excellent communication, organization and planning abilities.• Ability to build trusted relationships with partners.• Strong background and knowledge working with a wide range of IxD / UI / ID, UX Research in a highly technical environment or complex product suite, demonstrated through a comprehensive portfolio of successful products.• Possess strategic, systems thinking
