Description

Primary Function of Position:


 

Intuitive Surgical’s Aubonne engineering group designs imaging systems for surgical robotics.  As part of the engineering effort at Intuitive Surgical, the Aubonne engineering group designs cameras and imaging systems to be used by surgeons to see new information about the surgical site.  We are looking for a Senior Manager Technical Engineering who can lead a small group and is a hands on, technically strong engineer, ideally with experience in medical imaging and an interest in medical and novel imaging methods.    


Roles and Responsibilities:


The Senior Manager Technical Engineering’s primary function will be the management and technical leadership of the design and implementation of electronic and software systems to create and interface novel imaging devices comprising imagers, SPADs, TOF sensors, and others to Intuitive’s robotic surgery systems.


The role entails:


  • Grow and lead a world class technical organization of development engineers and researchers skilled in the development of new high performance surgical vision systems

  • Own end-to-end prototype development, project planning, management, and design control

  • Work with technical leaders in the Vision Engineering team and external collaborators to identify, develop and integrate new technologies to create outstanding products

  • Systematically develop intellectual property coverage in relevant fields

  • Interpret clinical requirements and negotiate design tradeoffs to guide roadmaps and product designs for imaging systems development

  • Lead selection of and manage relationships with key research groups, technology developers, and supplier partners

  • Formulate and lead successful cross-functional project teams

  • Inspire, manage, and grow the team to meet goals over time

  • Working with external partners in Switzerland, Germany, and the USA

  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team in a developing and growing field


Qualifications


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:


  • Minimum BSc in Electrical Engineering, Systems Design, Physics, or a related discipline

  • MSc and PhDs also welcomed and encouraged to apply

  • Candidates with degrees in multiple disciplines are encouraged to apply

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience; with at least 3 of those in a technical role

  • Proven track record of 10 years of experience conducting and leading product development teams with activities in several engineering disciplines

  • Adept at technology risk reduction, managing design evolution and iterative prototyping, and negotiating complex design tradeoffs across multiple engineering disciplines

  • Able to foster a culture of enthusiasm and engagement in challenging and meaningful technical work in an inclusive environment

  • Hands-on ego-less leader, willing to work shoulder-to-shoulder with engineers

  • Developing new technology and new solutions to meet customer needs

  • Able to dive into and quickly comprehend difficult technical subjects in a variety of specialties and translate to meaningful plans of action for the technical team

  • Clear communication is essential, with a fluency in English, both spoken and written

  • Motivated with a track record of successful project completion

  • Experience with imaging systems involving illumination and cameras

  • Experience with LIDAR or FLIM or SPADs or TOF

  • Medical imaging in a surgical environment
