Primary Function of Position:

The Senior Director of Government Affairs, US, will serve as the company’s representative in Washington, DC, responsible for protecting and promoting the interests of the company in Congress and among key regulatory agencies. This position will be responsible for communicating with policymakers and regulators; monitoring relevant legislative and regulatory developments; and promoting policies aligned with the company’s goals in the federal policy realm. This individual will also serve as the company’s primary policy liaison to DC-based industry and trade association groups.

Job Responsibilities:

• Become intelligent about ISI’s patient, clinical and economic value as well as impact to society.
• Manage on-going efforts and communications to educate members of Congress, congressional staff, and relevant agencies and their staff about Intuitive’s patient, clinical and economic value as well as impact to society.
• Closely monitor and flag legislative and regulatory actions that would impact the company’s operations and/or business goals in such realms as (but not limited to): health care, taxation, trade, reimbursement; and make appropriate recommendations to company leaders for action.
• Promote the company’s point of view about policies in these areas to policymakers and influencers.
• Develop, foster, and strengthen relationships with key members of the relevant legislative and regulatory bodies and third parties.
• Provide strategic direction and oversight to internal and external resources to ensure effective advocacy and reimbursement efforts to promote, protect and expand the business nationally.
• Draft position papers, testimony, and comments on proposed legislative and regulatory actions.
• Prepare policy briefings and talking points on proposed legislative and regulatory actions; provide guidance and counsel to ISI executives, spokespeople, and allies when they communicate on same.
• Facilitate meetings between government representatives and ISI executives, spokespeople, and allies.
• Collaborate and coordinate with relevant trade associations as well as track medical device industry trends and policy issues.
• Collaborate with other members of ISI’s Global Public Affairs team, including Government Affairs specialists in other countries, to help ensure that all efforts the company undertakes are coordinated and complementary.
• PAC experience a plus, but not required.
Qualifications

Job/Skill Requirements:

• Minimum of 12 years (and optimally 15+) of combined experience in corporate government affairs, as a congressional staffer, and/or in a regulatory agency (some combination of the three is preferred).
• Strong relationships on Capitol Hill and in relevant agencies.
• Strong experience and understanding of medical device, healthcare, or pharmaceutical industries preferred.
• Ability to work in a complex, global, and highly matrixed organization.
• Proven ability to make, and get acceptance for, tough decisions in a highly interdependent organization.
• Demonstrated experience managing concurrent projects and work streams while delivering high-quality materials.
• Quick strategic thinker, who is able to effectively synthesize and translate complex material for education/engagement purposes both internally and externally.
• Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.
• Strong communicator, editor, writer, and presenter.
• JD or Master’s degree in Public Policy preferred.
