Primary Function of Position:
In this role, the Supplier Development Engineer is responsible for managing supplier development projects and initiatives with key suppliers to improve supplier’s performance and/or capabilities to meet Intuitive’s short-term and long-term supply needs.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Qualifications• Manage detailed projects per the Supplier Development Program by leading efforts with little guidance/mentoring from management• Drive suppliers to continuously improve performance and capabilities using Key Process Indicatators (KPIs) such as Supplier Owned Quality, Capacity Management and Sub-Tier Management• Conduct on-site assessments to establish baseline scoring against KPI criteria and identify gaps for improvements• Work with suppliers on implementing new processes and process improvements• Participate in supplier training against Global Supplier Manual requirements• Train and empower suppliers to own the following areas: Non-Conformances (VRs), SCARs, Production Part Qualification Process (PPQP), Quarterly Quality Reviews (QQR) and Change Management• For PPQP, develop supplier to own completion of part qualification deliverables: pFMEA, Special Process Validations, FAI, Cpk Studies and Capacity Studies• Work closely with Purchasing organization to identify suppliers requiring development• Provide effective and timely supplier development results to management by delivering data-driven information (including for SBRs and QQRs).• Provide input to Purchasing for supplier contract development to capture Supplier Development KPI criteria such as capacity and statistical process control requirements.
Skills, Experience, Education, & Training:
• BS degree in Engineering or equivalent, Master’s degree preferred• Minimum 10 years related experience in Supplier Quality Engineering and/or Supplier Development or related field• Experience leading teams, including suppliers, to solve difficult technical and process problems• Excellent Project Management, complex problem solving skills, and written/verbal communication skills• Demonstrable knowledge in part qualification processes including good understanding of process validations, pFMEA, Cpk, SPC, FAI and capacity management.• Proven ability to motivate and influence suppliers• Medical Device experience is a plus• A proven history of implementing Lean/6 Sigma/SPC Programs at suppliers is a plus
• Ability to travel to suppliers (domestic and international ) as needed: 20-30%
