Job Description
Primary Function of Position:
Our team’s primary goal is to deliver real-time, high-definition, stereo surgical video with the best possible image quality for use in surgical procedures. This mission requires cross functional collaboration with multiple teams including FPGA, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, New Product Development, Manufacturing Engineering, and Clinical Engineering.
In this role you will run a team who contributes broadly to the Video Software Engineering Group responsible for the Linux-based, embedded software that controls the real-time stereo video processing engine at the heart of the da Vinci™ Surgical System.
The successful candidate thrives in a fast-paced team environment and can drive a team through the definition of product requirements, software implementation, and final verification testing. You care deeply about customer needs, patient safety, and delivering the highest product quality.
Essential Job Duties
- Manage a team focused on delivering low-latency, color accurate, video to all displays, including the 3D surgical viewer
- Deliver rock-solid embedded software by organizing talented engineers through detailed design, development, documentation, and product verification
- Work on cross-functional teams at multiple levels, from architectural definition, implementation, and system integration
- Continually improve the video software architecture powering the latest generation of surgical robotics
- Work side by side with our teammates bringing up next generation endoscope and illumination technology to deliver higher resolution video for surgeons
- Deliver software on schedule while communicating progress and hurdles directly, clearly, and concisely
- Maintain high software quality and contribute to software development by:
- Leading code reviews to proactively prevent bugs and ensure safe operation
- Advancing our automated testing capabilities
- Diagnosing, triaging, and solving challenging technical problems across the video subsystem
- Aiding in formal risk analysis and development of software mitigations to minimize potential failures
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum BS (MS or PhD preferred) in computer science, electrical engineering, physics, or related engineering discipline
- Minimum 8 years of industry experience developing C/C++ software for Linux-based embedded systems
- Familiarity with programming and configuration of hardware devices
- Minimum 3 years experience in technical leadership and/or team management
- An innate ability to inspire and work collaboratively to deliver cutting edge products requiring interdisciplinary problem solving
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated experience and comfort with all phases of the product development lifecycle, including design, documentation, implementation, debug, verification, validation, and transfer to manufacturing
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Direct experience with display technologies, display calibration, display pipelines, and colorimetry
- Knowledge of software drivers for FPGA based display interfaces (HDMI, DP, etc)
- Experience with imaging devices and technology, e.g. image sensors, color sensors, video/graphics hardware
- Knowledge of image-processing, CUDA, and/or FPGA integration
- Experience with designing software for mission critical applications

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications. The target salary ranges are listed.
Base Salary Range Region 1: $192,700 USD - $277,300 USD
Base Salary Range Region 2: $163,800 USD - $235,800 USD
