Job Description

The Future Forward group within Intuitive Surgical is searching for an NPI Manufacturing Engineer to support the development of manufacturing processes and equipment for systems, instruments, and accessories for a new robotic surgical platform.  As an early member of the team, this role is an exciting opportunity to help define the eventual product from early prototypes through clinical trials and into product launch.

As part of the team, the engineer will work with team members to:

  • Assess manufacturability of current designs, provide Design for Manufacturability/Assembly (DFM/DFA) input to engineering teams, and identify critical steps for further process development
  • Specify and refine BOMs, workflows/travelers, and detailed work instructions (MPIs)
  • Define pilot manufacturing lines for system components, instruments, and accessories, order equipment, and bring up the line
  • Design, specify, purchase, build, and qualify manufacturing and test equipment
  • Support New Product Introduction activities including developing new manufacturing processes, conducting process validation (IQOQPQ/PPQ), and production implementation
  • Manage completion of all manufacturing documentation in support of launch including Process FMEA, manufacturing line specifications, equipment specifications, and process validation protocols/reports.
  • Support pilot line builds of product for V/V and clinical trials

Qualifications

Skills and Experience Requirements

  • Minimum BS in relevant engineering discipline
  • Minimum 4 year’s experience, at least 2 years in medical device manufacturing
  • Ability to leverage internal and external resources to complete tasks
  • Experience with validation/verification of processes, equipment, and products
  • Prior experience with Design Control processes for medical devices and/or clinical applications of the surgical instruments, and/or automated equipment design
  • Quantitative process development skills including (p)FMEA, tolerance analysis, DoE, SPC, GR&R, and Cpk
  • Familiarity with mechanical CAD (Solidworks), ERP (SAP), PLM (Agile), and ALM (Polarion) software
  • Proven organizational skills and proven ability to work on multiple fast-paced project threads simultaneously
  • Clear and efficient documentation skills

Base Salary Range Region 1: $116,900 USD - $168,200 USD
Base Salary Range Region 2: $99,300 USD - $142,900 USD
Shift: Day
Travel: 10% of the time
Workplace Type: Set Schedule - This job will be onsite weekly, the percentage of onsite work will be defined by the leader.
