Job Description

Primary Function of Position:

As an Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist for the EMEA region, you will play a important  role in ensuring that the company's operations comply with all relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining EHS programs and policies across various locations within the region. Your primary focus will be on safeguarding the well-being of employees, protecting the environment, and fostering a culture of safety and compliance.

  • Regulatory Compliance:
    - Stay up-to-date with local, national, and international EHS regulations that apply to the EMEA region.
    - Interpret and ensure compliance with relevant laws, directives, and standards related to environment, health, and safety.
    - Evaluate criticity of compliance requirements; set implementation priorities
    - Prioritize critical aspects in countries where no EHS local functions are present
    - Work in partnership with existing EHS local functions, when existing
    - Design and implement processes to comply with compliance requirements
    - Monitor changes in regulations and update company policies and practices accordingly.
  • Standards Compliance:
    - Stay up-to-date with international EHS standards (ISO 14001, ISO 450001)
    - Support local entities for standards implementation
    - When needed, coordinate certification related activities with Global ESG (internal/external audit, review)
  • EHS Program Development:
    - Develop and implement comprehensive EHS programs and initiatives that align with the company's global EHS strategy.
    - Tailor EHS programs to meet the specific needs and challenges of individual locations within the EMEA region.
    - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate EHS requirements into various business processes.
  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
    - Conduct thorough risk assessments of workplace environments, equipment, and processes to identify potential hazards.
    - Develop and execute strategies to mitigate identified risks and enhance overall safety performance.
    - Promote a proactive approach to risk management by encouraging incident reporting and investigation.
  • Incident Management:
    - Lead investigations into EHS incidents, accidents, near-misses, and non-compliance issues to determine root causes and prevent future occurrences.
    - Maintain incident records and reports for regulatory purposes and internal analysis.
    - Implement corrective actions to address identified deficiencies and improve safety performance.
  • Reporting and Documentation:
    - Prepare regular EHS reports for management, detailing performance metrics, compliance status, and improvement initiatives.
    - Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of EHS-related data, including inspections, audits, and training records.
  • Coordinate Roles & Responsibilities with other internal departments
  • Design and deliver EHS training programs to raise awareness and ensure that employees and stakeholders understand their responsibilities
  • Engage with employees, management and stakeholders to foster a safety-conscious culture and encourage proactive participation in EHS programs.
  • Assist EHS EMEA function in all related activities and programs..


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field. Advanced degrees and relevant certifications (e.g. ISO 14001, ISO 45001) are a plus.;
  • Minimum 8 years of proven experience as an EHS Specialist or similar role, with a track record of successful EHS program development and implementation.
  • In-depth knowledge of EHS regulations and best practices relevant to the EMEA region.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and incident investigations.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to deliver effective EHS messages to diverse audiences.
  • Cross-cultural awareness and experience working with diverse teams across the EMEA region.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with various stakeholders and drive change through influence.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently to find solutions;
  • Ability to lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Fluent in English, and knowledge of additional languages spoken within the EMEA region is beneficial (French / German) is a big plus;
  • Ability to travel approximately 30%
