Job Description

Primary function of the position:

 

Individual for this position must have a strong track record of leading multi-disciplinary, diverse engineering teams. This individual must have demonstrated the ability to bridge across multiple functions within the organization including engineering, manufacturing, service, planning and product support, as well as possess experience identifying, bringing up, and supporting manufacturing vendors.

Disciplinary and professional leadership of the subordinates, taking into account the strategic company goals and the group mission statement developed by the shareholders.

Responsible for supporting the production areas in implementing mechanization and automation in production, assembly and testing of optical elements and opto-electronic assemblies.

Responsible for developing, procuring, implementing, and qualifying equipment, fixtures, tools for new products.

Continuous optimization of processes and support of measures to expand capacity.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lead an engineering team responsible for process development, tooling and fixture design and documentation for manufacturing of endoscopes.
  • Set direction and priority of activities for timely execution of projects supporting new vision products, as well as optimizing manufacturability, capacity, and cost of endoscopes and vision systems.
  • Ensure adequate engineering support of manufacturing operations.
  • Guide the organization in setting strategic direction for manufacturing methodologies for production of vision products.
  • Oversee and ensure timely and proper qualification and implementation of new manufacturing processes and equipment within Intuitive’s regulated environment.
  • Own technical interactions with manufacturing vendors and identification of new partners and guide the organization in technical support of manufacturing processes at vendors.
  • Definition of expectations and goals, preparation of performance feedback and performance reviews with the team
  • Planning and guiding the team to improve processes and increase efficiency.
  • Understanding and consistent implementation of the relevant DOPs and SOPs of the quality system as well as the production guidelines in the area of responsibility
  • Examination and evaluation of technological possibilities and concepts for the mechanization or automation of production, assembly and testing processes, including the necessary patent searches.
  • Design, procurement, assembly and qualification of sample assemblies to confirm the basic operation of devices for production, assembly, adjustment and testing of micro-optical and optoelectronic assemblies for endoscopy.
  • Conceptual design, construction, assembly, qualification and service of devices and handling aids (partially or fully automated if necessary) for the assembly, adjustment and testing of micro-optical and optoelectronic components for endoscopy
  • Documentation and coordination of development results with the relevant specialist departments
  • Help to achieve planned Quality-Goals
  • Opportunities for improvement, e.g. on workflows, products, savings opportunities in the sense of the CIP
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Department Operating Procedures (DOPs), and work instructions.
  • Document test results using paper and electronic means (Word, Excel, SAP)
  • Perform SAP transactions related to manufacturing work.
  • Follows all corporate, safety and production procedures and regulations.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Mechanical Engineer with at least 5-year work experience in a field of mechanical engineering, microsystems engineering, Mechatronics
  • Great Experience (similar 3-years) in manufacturing or mechanical engineering with high volume surgical products preferred.
  •  At least three (3) years of management experience leading of technical teams.
  • Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline
  • Adept at people management and mentoring of senior level employees.
  • Demonstrated experience in design and manufacturing of endoscopes and product transfer from engineering into volume manufacturing.
  • Hands-on mentality with the proven ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Enthusiasm and perseverance to identify and development solutions for complex technical problems. Strong affinity for optical and mechanical devices
  • Good quantitative approach to problem solving.
  • Capability to train assemblers and transfer knowledge understandable.
  • High ability to make continuous, incremental improvements to existing processes (CIP)
  • Experienced in medical device manufacturing environment.
  • Intercultural skills
  • CAD experience a must (SolidWorks).
  • Able to travel periodically and occasional weekend shift support.
  • Must be computer literate with experience using, Windows, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Excellent documentation skills and the ability to communicate in German and English at all levels of the organization, both verbally and in writing
  • Computer literacy with common computer applications, MS Office
  • Previous experience with ISO 9001, ISO 13485, or similar QMS a plus
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and small group situations to other employees, managers, or engineers.
  • Ability to report quality issues and suggest simple process improvements.
  • Very good spatial imagination capability
  • Highly interested in technical contexts and manual skill
