Job Description
Primary Function of Position:
You will be joining a team focused on the design of the user interfaces for Intuitive’s robotic systems. Working in close collaboration with other product designers and cross-functional teams, you will continually push to execute consistent and high-quality user experiences for Intuitive’s product line. This team’s primary focus is to ensure that new Intuitive products are highly usable by defining a clear visual language for graphical user interfaces. This includes development of user interfaces from early product definition and development phases through product launch, as well as participating in the validation of product usability through informal and formal testing with representative users.
You are a flexible and dynamic designer who strives for innovative and elegant solutions in all endeavors. The ideal candidate is passionate about intentional aesthetics and the critical role design systems play in product continuity.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and implement user interfaces that enhance surgeon and OR staff capabilities through unprecedented simplicity, utility, and ease of use
- Define, document, and execute design system patterns employing purposeful typography, color, iconography, and motion to deliver world class user interfaces
- Provide both high-level and detail-focused specifications for designs to facilitate communication with project stakeholders and engineering teams alike
- Partner with the broader User Experience team to drive consistency across Intuitive’s product ecosystem
Qualifications
University Hiring Program Eligibility Requirements:
- University Enrollment: Must be currently enrolled in and returning to an accredited degree-seeking academic program in the Fall.
- Internship Work Period: Must be available to work full-time (approximately 40 hours per week) during a 10-12 week period starting May or June. Specific start dates are shared during the recruiting process.
Skills, Experience, Education, & Training:
- Current enrollment in a Product Design or related field degree-seeking program at the Bachelor’s level.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills when sharing design process with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
- Command of Figma, the Adobe Creative Suite, and software prototyping tools

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay (paid at an hourly rate), benefits, and a housing allowance. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including relevant skills and experience for this internship, degree-seeking academic program (PhD, Master’s, Bachelor’s, etc), year in school, and location. The hourly rate is prorated against the intern program salaries listed and total program compensation will be based on internship duration.
Base Salary Range Region 1: $70,800 - $106,200
Base Salary Range Region 2: $60,200 - $90,300
