Job Description

Primary Function of Position:

Under general supervision from the Sr. Materials manager, the MX Trade Compliance Manager becomes responsible for assuring compliance with MX-US Customs and Import/export regulations making sure that the MX Trade compliance functions are performed according to the legal framework and the guidelines of the company keeping the necessary certifications and permits to operate. This position will work with a close collaboration with Global Trade Compliance, MX Import/export and MX Finance.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Subject matter expert for all aspects of Customs compliance related to Mexican maquiladora operations.
  • Consistently review any law or regulations changes and their impact on the operation. Communicate with stakeholders accordingly.
  • Maintain up to date accounting of all trade cargo data (imports, bills of materials, and exports) to ensure inventories in the Annex 24 match SAP system and physical inventories.
  • Maintain IVA-IEPS, CTPAT certifications. Pursue OEA Certification.
  • Make sure that virtual transactions are properly recorded in Annex 24 and are compliant with regulations.
  • Lead and response to MX. Customs authorities audits.
  • Coordinate internal audit of customs operations.
  • Verify and audit the import duties on any temporal and definitive importation.
  • Obtain special Import permits as applicable.
  • Responsible for Valuation reports, Annex 24 and Annex 30 control, Fixed Assets controls, MX Broker management as applicable among others.
  • Monitor the closing of permits validating that the inventory analyst has collated information, generated consolidated and payment of taxes.
  • Coordinate the issuance of import and export permit procedures.
  • Assure the Control of Fixed Assets documents in Imports and Exports.
  • Make sure that sending of information for the monthly INEGI report (IMMEX).
  • Supervise the activities related with the certificates of origin of the goods to be imported to maintain tariff preference.
  • Validate the tariff classification of goods generated by COE/Brokers.
  • Budget preparation and execution in a timely manner.
  • Drive our Culture Strategy by fostering our mission, founding principles, individual and leadership expectations.
  • Perform the evaluation for the annual CIP (Compensation Incentive Plan) and Merit providing feedback to your staff.


Skills, Experience, Education & Training:


  • Bachelor’s degree in foreign Trade, Business Administration or equivalent with more than 3 years’ experience as a Trade compliance manager position.
  • Knowledge of customs regulations associated with but not limited to Customs Reconciliation, Certificates of Origin for Importing and Exporting, Country of Origin, CTPAT, OEA, Customs Clearance, Government Audit Requirements, INCOTERMS, Letters of Credit, Commercial Invoices, Customs classifications (MX-US) among others.
  • Experience with audits (performing and audit).
  • Works independently with minimal supervision in a cross-functional setting.
  • Ability to trouble-shoot process issues and lead projects.
  • Demonstrates concern for precision and thoroughness.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects successfully.
  • Demonstrated accuracy and thoroughness in completing work assignments.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write English working across cultures and teams where applicable.
  • Excellent communications skills are desired.
  • Must be able to travel to the United States.
  • Computer knowledge in MS Office products and ERP systems, preferably SAP.
  • Proven track record of being an effective achiever in a fast paced, high-volume manufacturing and/or distribution company.
  • Six Sigma and any other Continuous improvement knowledge will be desired.
