A history of innovation
Over the past 30 years, Intuitive has been at the forefront of innovation, consistently pushing boundaries to make meaningful differences for physicians, hospitals, and their patients.

1995 - Intuitive Surgical emerges
In November 1995, Intuitive Surgical was established with a visionary goal: to revolutionize minimally invasive surgery through the development of an innovative robotic-assisted surgical system.
2000 - Da Vinci standard system
Engineered to surpass the constraints of traditional open and laparoscopic surgery, our first-generation system allowed surgeons to operate comfortably while seated at a console.
2006 - Da Vinci S system
Drawing on valuable customer feedback, we developed a system with improved features and advanced technology that elevated the surgeon, care team, and patient experience.
2009 - Da Vinci Si system
Our third-generation system responded to customer insights by prioritizing surgeon training. We introduced a dual-console option, integrated a Skills Simulator, and further refined surgeon control.
2014 - Da Vinci Xi system
This system solidified robotic surgery as the standard of care. It offers extensive anatomical access, empowering surgeons to perform procedures for a wide spectrum of patients.
2017 - Da Vinci X system
This system gives hospitals access to fourth-generation da Vinci technology at a lower price, and allows robotics programs to standardize instruments across da Vinci multiport platforms.
2018 - Da Vinci SP system
Paving the way for groundbreaking surgical techniques, SP’s distinctive patient-cart design and instruments tailored for single-port surgery empowers surgeons to perform a wide range of procedures.
2019 - Ion system
Intuitive expanded into diagnostic and interventional procedures with Ion. This platform enables doctors to precisely biopsy suspicious nodules, even those located in the far reaches of the lung.
2021 - My Intuitive application
With the introduction of the My Intuitive app, we entered a new era of data analytics designed to help healthcare professionals track progress and identify trends in their robotics practices.
2024 - Da Vinci 5 system
Our most advanced platform to date, da Vinci 5 is designed to enhance surgical senses and optimize operating-room efficiencies, and aims to elevate patient outcomes both now and in the future.
