Job Description
Role Overview
We seek a Senior Visual Designer to join our User Experience Design team, which is focused explicitly on the da Vinci Single Port System's user interface (UI).
As a Senior Visual Designer, you will work on designing user interfaces for Intuitive’s da Vinci Surgical Systems. Collaborating closely with fellow designers and cross-functional teams, you will deliver high-quality, consistent user experiences across Intuitive’s product line. The Visual Design team’s mission is to ensure our products are intuitive and easy to use by establishing a clear and consistent visual language for our graphical user interfaces. From the initial concept stages through product launch, you will play a key role in developing and validating designs, ensuring they meet usability standards through informal and formal user testing.
You are an innovative and adaptable professional passionate about blending aesthetics and functionality. The ideal candidate understands the vital role of design systems in ensuring product consistency and enhancing user experience, and has the capability to apply and expand existing systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement user interfaces that enhance the capabilities of surgeons and operating room staff, prioritizing simplicity, utility, and ease of use.
- To create world-class user interfaces, define, document, and implement design system patterns, including typography, color, iconography, and motion.
- Deliver high-level and detailed design specifications to communicate effectively with project stakeholders and engineering teams.
- Partner with the broader Visual Design team to ensure consistency across Intuitive’s product ecosystem.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in product design, with a preference for expertise beyond traditional web and mobile interfaces.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions and processes to cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated expertise in Figma, design systems, and component libraries.
- Ability to create prototypes at various levels of fidelity using tools like Figma, ProtoPie, or Unity.
- Willingness to work in surgical environments and comply with hospital vendor credentialing requirements
- Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time
Required Education and Training
- Preference for candidates with at least a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, or an engineering discipline. Equivalent experience can also be considered.

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications. The target salary ranges are listed.
Base Salary Range Region 1: $173.000 USD - $249.000 USD
Base Salary Range Region 2: $147.100 USD - $211.700 USD
Shift: Day
Travel: 10% of the time
Workplace Type: Set Schedule - This job will be onsite weekly, the percentage of onsite work will be defined by the leader.
